Scottish Raider Paddy The Squire travelled 117 miles down from Carrutherstown, in Dumfries and Galloway to land the spoils in the feature race on the Thirsk Superhero card last Friday, the Class 3 Join Racing TV run over a distance of 1m4f on the prevailing ground, described as good to firm.
Well supported in the betting, the 5/6 favourite ridden by Andrew Mullin, who served his apprenticeship at the Easterby yard in Malton, and trained by Iain Jardine was prominent throughout the race and opened up a margin of five lengths when crossing the line.
Local horse Ribble Vibe was the runner-up.
A shorter journey from the Norton yard run jointly by Tony Coyle and Kaine Wood had a successful outcome as Golden Prosperity won the opening race, the six furlong goracing.co.uk Future Stars Apprentice Classified Stakes.
Two memorial races dedicated to Bob Vickery and Peter Bell followed.
Daneh of Dandy travelled 185 miles from Newmarket and made virtually all the running to record a one and a half length success and reward favourite backers in the Restricted Novice Stakes, the first memorial race.
